U.S. and China Launch New Working Groups to Strengthen Economic and Financial Ties
-
The U.S. Treasury Department has launched two new working groups with China on economic and financial issues. They will meet regularly and report to Janet Yellen and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.
-
The groups were formed after Yellen's July visit to Beijing, aiming to improve communication between the U.S. and China on economic and financial matters.
-
Yellen said the groups will address America's interests and concerns, promote economic competition on a level playing field, and advance cooperation on global economic challenges.
-
China's Finance Ministry and central bank confirmed the groups are to strengthen communication and collaboration.
-
The working groups follow efforts by other officials to set up forums for explaining U.S. policies to China after years of deteriorating relations.
