Volkswagen Workers in Tennessee File for Union Election, UAW Says Company Tried to Block Organizing
- Volkswagen workers in Chattanooga, Tennessee filed a petition to join the United Auto Workers (UAW) union after a majority signed cards.
- This is the UAW's first union election filing since launching a major campaign to organize 150,000 auto workers at non-union plants.
- The UAW says VW is the only VW plant globally without union representation and has filed charges against VW for alleged union busting.
- Over 50% of the 4,000 workers signed union authorization cards in support of the UAW.
- The UAW previously came close to winning union elections at the plant in 2014 and 2019 but lost after opposition from anti-union groups.
