Biden Briefly Interrupted by Climate Protester Demanding Emergency Declaration
-
President Biden was briefly interrupted by a climate protester, Kai Newkirk, during a speech in Arizona. Newkirk demanded Biden declare a climate emergency.
-
Biden responded by telling Newkirk he would meet with him after the speech if he would "shush up". This drew applause from the crowd.
-
Newkirk, founder of For All, said in a statement he would have gladly accepted Biden's offer to meet and still would if it stands. He wants Biden to use his full powers to address climate change.
-
Newkirk said he will continue to organize "nonviolent direct action" until Biden declares a climate emergency and phases out fossil fuels.

Photos show Newkirk being removed from the event after interrupting Biden's remarks on democracy and honoring late Senator John McCain.
