GOP Speaker Candidates Condemn January 6 Riot But Remain Divided on Overturning Election

Rep. Tom Emmer condemned the "unacceptable display of violence" at the Capitol but dismissed overturning the election.

Rep. Austin Scott called the "violence and destruction" at the Capitol "disgraceful" and said Congress lacks power to overturn states' electoral votes.

Rep. Kevin Hern condemned the riot as a "sad day" but still called for investigating voter fraud claims.

Rep. Bryon Donalds said the riot "tainted the intentions of millions of lawful citizens" though he still voted against certifying results.

Rep. Jack Bergman called the rioters "a disgrace" but did not regret his vote against certifying.
