$20 Minimum Wage for Big Fast Food Chains Excludes Some Venues and Bakeries
-
Employees of large, corporate-owned fast food chains with over 60 locations will get the $20 minimum wage. This includes places like McDonald's and Pizza Hut.
-
Fast food restaurants located in airports, hotels, theme parks, museums, and some other venues are exempt from paying the higher wage.
-
Starbucks and other coffee shops located inside grocery stores bigger than 15,000 square feet are also exempt, if the grocery store employs the workers.
-
Fast food chains that bake all their own bread on-site, like Panera, were originally exempt but that has since been walked back.
-
The wage increase aims to improve conditions for low-paid fast food workers, though some chains plan to offset costs by raising prices.
