Amazon's Whole Foods to Open Smaller 'Daily Shop' Stores in NYC Focusing on Convenience
-
Whole Foods, owned by Amazon, is opening smaller convenience store-sized locations called Whole Foods Market Daily Shop in NYC and other cities.
-
The first location will be on the Upper East Side; more NYC locations will follow.
-
The small format stores will be 7,000 - 14,000 square feet and focus on prepared foods, meal solutions, and basics like produce.
-
The move comes as competition is heating up in the grocery industry with expansions from Walmart, Wegmans, Lidl, and H Mart.
-
In 2019, Whole Foods tested a 2,500 square foot bodega-style shop which was successful and prompted this wider rollout of small format stores.
