Author Gives Book to Nonprofit to Train AI Chatbot, Raising Questions About Fair Use of Texts for AI Training

I published my first book 4 years ago, but it wasn't a bestseller. A nonprofit asked to use it to train their AI chatbot.

Lawsuits claim tech firms have used books without permission to train AIs. This is different - they asked me.

Well-trained chatbots can be great educational tools. I'm glad my book may help people learn about AI risks.

But the law is unclear if taking large amounts of text for profit is "fair use." More guidelines are needed.

For now, focus on shaping what we want from AI. Nonprofit chatbots educating on AI safety seem beneficial overall.
