Russian opposition leader Kara-Murza jailed for 25 years, wife fears for his life
-
Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian-British opposition politician, was arrested in Moscow in April 2022 and sentenced to 25 years in prison on false charges.
-
His wife Evgenia fears for his life, as his health is poor and he faces isolation and mistreatment in prison similar to Alexei Navalny before his death.
-
Kara-Murza previously survived two poisoning attempts in 2015 and 2017 which his doctors attributed to the Russian government.
-
There are calls for Western governments to secure his release, possibly through a prisoner swap, but the UK currently rules out exchanges.
-
Even from prison, Kara-Murza defiantly urges Russians to continue opposing Putin's regime.
