Jimmy Carter Events Moved Up Due to Possible Shutdown During Former President's 99th Birthday

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library has moved up events for Carter's 99th birthday due to possible government shutdown this weekend. Some events now on Saturday instead of Sunday.

If there is a shutdown, some presidential libraries would close according to National Archives plans. The Carter Library museum would close although it shares some spaces with the nonprofit Carter Center.

The public was asked to share birthday messages and tributes for Carter to be featured in a mosaic across the country.

Carter and his wife made a public appearance riding through the Plains Peanut Festival last week.

Carter was president from 1977-1981. In later years he founded The Carter Center and has volunteered extensively with Habitat for Humanity.
