UK Startup Breaks Promise, Makes Unsolicited Deepfake Videos of Reporter

UK startup Yepic AI promised not to create deepfakes without consent, but made unsolicited deepfake videos of a TechCrunch reporter without permission.

Yepic AI claimed it would never recreate someone without consent, but did so anyway in a sales pitch email to a reporter.

The reporter had not agreed to have their image deepfaked and asked Yepic AI to delete the videos.

Deepfakes use AI to create convincing but fake videos/audio of people without their consent.

Before deepfakes were used for fraud, they were often used to create non-consensual porn of women without permission.
