Florida GOP moves to oust party chair over rape allegations
-
The Republican Party of Florida voted to strip party chair Christian Ziegler of his power and reduce his salary to $1 following rape allegations against him.
-
Top Florida Republicans including Gov. Ron DeSantis had called for Ziegler to resign, but he refused, forcing the party to hold a tense meeting to vote on his fate.
-
The party set a 3-week countdown to formally oust Ziegler from his position at another meeting on January 8th.
-
Ziegler maintains his innocence but the party said he couldn't morally lead given the seriousness of the allegations.
-
It's unclear how long the police investigation into the allegations will last or if charges will be recommended against Ziegler.
