Bored Ape's New Metaverse Falls Flat in Underwhelming Beta Test
• Otherside is a metaverse project powered by NFTs from the company behind the Bored Apes. You needed to own a Bored Ape NFT to access certain areas of the recent beta test.
• The company sold $300 million in Otherside digital land NFTs in May 2022, so a lot of money is involved.
• The recent beta test looked quite underwhelming - bland graphics, choppy performance, no text or voice chat. It resembles a cheap 3D chat room from years ago.
• Highlight of the beta was a virtual clubhouse where apes could take selfies, twerk, and not do much else. You need a $70k+ ape NFT to enter.
• Long-term, Otherside wants to be like Roblox or Fortnite with user-generated content. But the high entry price and current lack of gameplay will make that difficult.
