7 arrested at McCarthy's office while demanding renewal of Bush-era AIDS program

7 protesters were arrested after occupying House Speaker McCarthy's office, seeking to renew PEPFAR, a Bush-era HIV/AIDS program.

Protesters chanted "Pass PEPFAR now" before being handcuffed and escorted away by authorities.

Video captured the activists being stood against a wall and handcuffed outside McCarthy's office.

Congress has until Sept. 30 to pass a spending bill to replenish PEPFAR, which some Republicans are concerned may fund abortions.

McCarthy was not in his office when the protesters entered. The House returns Tuesday with 2 weeks to avoid a shutdown.
