Onewheel Electric Skateboards Recalled After 4 Deaths Due to Sudden Loss of Balance
-
All models of Onewheel electric skateboards are being recalled after 4 reported deaths and multiple injuries.
-
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that the skateboards can suddenly stop balancing, causing crashes and serious injuries.
-
The deaths were caused by head trauma, with 3 riders not wearing helmets. Other injuries included brain injuries, fractures, and paralysis.
-
Santa Cruz-based Future Motion initially refused to agree to a recall, but is now cooperating.
-
Future Motion will roll out a firmware update to address safety issues, using "haptic buzz" alerts to warn riders before crashes.
