Sunrise Movement activists arrested in McCarthy's office while demanding climate action, end to shutdown threats
-
Eighteen climate activists with the Sunrise Movement were arrested during a protest in Kevin McCarthy's office demanding he prevent a government shutdown.
-
The activists traveled from across the country and held signs reading "Climate action not shutdown" and "McCarthy Aren't you ashamed?"
-
They are concerned a shutdown could impact FEMA's ability to respond to disasters like hurricanes.
-
The activists also want no cuts to Inflation Reduction Act programs and reinstatement of the child tax credit.
-
The Sunrise Movement says McCarthy and Republicans must act on climate change, fund schools, or risk the economy to appease extremists.
