Gavin Newsom Appoints Laphonza Butler as California's First Black Lesbian Senator

Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Laphonza Butler, president of Emily's List, as Senator Dianne Feinstein's replacement.
Butler is the first Black lesbian senator and helps Democrats maintain control of the Senate.
